It is available by prescription for women only. It is safe and has been used for over 30 years. Initially it was used to treat high blood pressure, but for over 15 years it has been used to treat hair loss in women.
Side effects can include initial dizziness (especially on standing) and tiredness. These symptoms usually resolve within a week. Breast tenderness and irregular menstrual periods may occur for 3-4 months after commencing. Skin rashes may occasionally occur.
