Laser Hair Loss Treatment
LED and Laser Hair Loss Treament
Low Level Laser Therapy and Red light LED therapy have been proven to be highly effective treatments for wound healing and tissue repair, but…
Finally a recent study published just this month (October 2013) provides the research study we’ve been waiting for to evaluate the safety, effectiveness and ability of Low Level Laser Therapy (LLLT) to stimulate hair follicles tor regrow hair.
For years now many people have spent hundreds of dollars on trialling LLLT in a vain effort to regrow their hair in both male and female pattern hair loss. Until now, all the results have been anecdotally based, but now a new journal article published by the official journal of the American Society of Lasers in Medicine and Surgery (ASLMS) provides credible research based evidence.
And the results are…..Interesting!
LED and Laser Hair Loss Treatment – A Double-Blind Randomised Controlled Study
A double-blind randomised controlled trial was conducted by Raymond J Lanzafame et al, that investigated the safety and physiologic effects of LLLT on human males with androgenic alopecia (Male Pattern Baldness).
Entitled “The Growth of Human Scalp Hair Mediated by Visible Red Light Laser and LED Sources in Males”, the authors concluded that their study demonstrated that LLLT “Laser Cap” applied to the scalp every second day for 16 weeks is a safe and effective hair loss treatment for androgenetic alopecia in healthy males between 18-48 years of age with Norwood IIa-V classification.
However, compliance (regular committed use of the LLLT device every other day for 4 months) was a major issue and their subjects achieved only a 35% increase in hair counts compared to control patients.
What do the study results tell us?
That a high level of commitment (and money) is required by patients. LED and Laser Hair Loss Treatment requires frequent repeat use of the device to gain an average of only 35% increase in hair.
Whilst LED and Laser Hair Loss treatment is certainly safe and beneficial non-invasive form of hair loss therapy, most patients may find it inconvenient as sole and singular treatment. So the daily repeat-application requirement means laser hair loss treatment may not be a sustainable form of hair loss management in the long term – both financially and physiologically.
Sufferers should note there are other genuinely effective options available for them besides laser hair loss treatment.
It is possible to combine treatments to get a better out come and could include any combination of:
- Medical treatment specifically for any underlying medical cause of hair loss, eg thyroid issues, etc
- Medication specifically for male or female pattern hair loss, such as finasteride
- PRP and/or Stem Cell Therapy for Hair Regrowth
- Hair Transplant Surgery
- Cosmetic Concealer, such as Surethik Hair Fibres
