PhotoDynamic Therapy (PDT) is a form of phototherapy used for the treatment of:
- Precancerous Skin Lesions
- Some Cancerous Skin Lesions (not Melanoma)
At Newin Institute we focus our PDT on the treatment of Acne only (Cystic or Inflammatory Acne), and it is also a suitable treatment for those who want to avoid using Roaccutane due to its undesirable side effects.
The procedure uses ALA (Amino-Levulinic Acid) applied to the treatment area (eg face), which is then activated by light. This produces Oxygen free radicals that destroy the acne bacteria and reduce the acne lesions.
The recovery time is approximately 3-7 days post treatment and achieves best results with 2-4 sessions at intervals between 30-45 days.
